MODCONS Project (2020 – 2024)
MODCONS – Modular Mass Timber Buildings for the Circular Economy. Funding Programme: Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine. Total project value and duration: €0.592m, from September 2020 to August 2024
Main Focus

Challenge: the design, development and testing of a sustainable modular timber building solution maximising the use of Irish timber in cross-laminated panels for walls and floors which will be optimised for structural integrity, fire, acoustic and vibration performance. Work commenced in November 2020. MTU package runs to November 2022.

Current MTU activities: 

Literature review & major upgrade of the large kiln in the Structures Laboratory

Proposed activities from January 2021 onwards:

Fire testing of innovative CLT panels and computational modelling of CLT panels subject to fire.
