River Bandon Project (2012 – 2024)
Main Focus
Challenge: There is a limited understanding of suspended and bed sediment behaviour in Irish Rivers and Streams. This project has investigated sediment behaviour on the River Bandon system. Suspended sediment sampling using manual sampling, turbidity monitoring and automatic water sampling has been undertaken for a significant period of time. Suspended sediment behaviour during storm driven events and dredging events has been studies in detail. Bed sediment behaviour has been investigated through manual sampling and the installation of bed traps.
An extensive baseline of data prior to the river dredging events of 2017 and 2018 has been accumulated; data gathering for the post-dredging period is currently being gathered.
