Biography

Dr. Ashekuzzaman completed a BSc(Hons) in Civil Engineering followed by an MSc and a PhD in Environmental Engineering and Technology. He is a professional member (MCIWEM) of The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management since 2018. He has about 12 years of experience (including 6 years of research assignments at Teagasc as research officer and WP coordinator) of working across industry-academic led interdisciplinary projects (e.g. EU H2020 Nutri2Cycle, EU Interreg NWE Renu2Farm, Irish DPTC) adding value to agro-industrial bioresources recovery and bio-energy, renewable biobased fertiliser development and application, improving soil organic matter and carbon, and reducing environmental footprints (i.e. less nutrients and carbon loss), and pollution treatment process in the water environment.

Dr. Ashekuzzaman is currently a lecturer at Munster Technological University and his research interests lies in Environmental chemistry and green synthesis of bio-based and renewable materials to increase circular use and facilitate bioeconomy expansion, transition to precision agriculture to improve fertiliser use efficiency and reduce agri-climate footprint, and remediation of environmental losses of nutrients, metals and emerging contaminants from water/wastewater treatment facilities and agricultural runoff. To date, he was successfully awarded research funding from DANIDA Research Grant (Denmark), Santander Mobility Scholarship (UK), The Royal Society of Edinburgh (Scotland) and Science Foundation Ireland for conducting and delivering research outcomes. Dr. Ashekuzzaman served as organizing and scientific committee member in International conferences (e.g. RAMIRAN 2017, ManuREsource 2022). He is/was an invited scientific steering committee member of Irish EPA funded NEWTRIENTS project and EU funded BRAINWAVES Project. He is also Branch Committee Member (June 2019 – present) of the CIWEM RoI.
