Biography
Dr. Evan Finegan is a Lecturer and Researcher in the Department of Architecture at Munster Technological University (MTU). Evan graduated with First Class Honours (1:1) in Architectural Technology, and spent a number of years working in architecture and construction. He completed his PhD in 2022, studying post occupancy monitoring of the indoor temperatures within an nZEB dwelling, while identifying the variation associated with simulated performance and post occupancy performance, with a focus on variations as a result of climate change.
Prior to joining MTU in 2017, Evan was a partner at Hiras Finegan Architecture and Energy Consultancy, where he was the principal of the energy consultancy side of the business. His experience includes consultancy work on multiple private residences across Cork city, Cork county and Dublin city. He was responsible for the technical design of in house architectural projects to optimize building designs for efficiency & comfort, with an emphasis on end user benefits and minimizing environmental impacts. Evan’s general research interests include energy performance simulation, post occupancy energy evaluation, indoor air quality, and the impact of climate change on buildings. He also has an interest in the total energy performance of buildings to promote embodied and operational energy balances, the optimization of which can be closely attributed with a reduction in green-house gas emissions associated with the built environment.
Research Areas
Building energy performance, climate change & buildings, fabric first approaches, post occupancy building analysis, indoor air quality, smart building technology, renewable energy, energy storage systems
